Russia,“ he said, noting that ”Russia will not allow expressing power

added that one of the goals
of fomenting the Georgian-Ossetian conflict in 2008 was the failure of the Olympic Games in Sochi.
”Today the leadership of the Russian parliament is taking steps [for cooperation], we had American congressmen, we are trying to establish
communication with them, we invited colleagues from the Bundestag [to have a dialogue] with the Germans as a leading European state, good communication is
being built up with France,“ the Chairman of the Defence Committee said.
According to Vladimir Shamanov, Russia is currently operating under difficult conditions but is determined to have a constructive dialogue with all countries.
On 8 August 2008 Georgia fired South Ossetia from the Grad rocket launcher, Georgian troops attacked the Republic and partially destroyed its capital, Tskhinval. Russia, defending the inhabitants of South Ossetia, many of whom took Russian citizenship, brought its troops into the Republic and after five days of fighting expelled the Georgian military troops from the region. On 26 August 2008 Moscow recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
