The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with the President of the National Council of the Transition of the Republic of Guinea Dansa Kourouma.
The meeting was held on the sidelines the Second International Parliamentary
Conference “Russia – Africa”.
Vyacheslav Volodin thanked his colleague for participating in the Conference.
“Today we have discussed a wide range of issues during the Conference. We expect that our relations will be developing within the parliamentary dimension,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
Dansa Kourouma noted the high level of the organization of the Conference and the relevance of the discussion agenda.
“The current generation of people of the Republic of Guinea is a new generation that wants to take responsibility for the fate of their country. This is the generation that was growing up when there was no more colonization. We grew up in a free country and we do not want to get back in our past,” he said.
Dansa Kourouma stressed that the Republic of Guinea was interested in developing relations with Russia. “Many years ago, there was an issue of recognizing the Republic of Guinea as a state. Now there are issues related to the autonomy of the state, its independence, both political and economic. And, of course, we are deciding with which the states we will build the partnership. We would like to ask you to convey to the head of state our desires and aspirations of the people to develop and build partnership with Russia,” he added.
Vyacheslav Volodin assured his colleague that he would convey the request of the people of the Republic of Guinea to the President of Russia. The Chairman of the State Duma noted the developing relations between the two countries following the agreements reached at the level of heads of states.
“We are convinced that it is necessary to build relations on the principles of respect, trust, equality, absence of double standards and, of course, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin also proposed to find new formats, possible creation of a joint commission for effective parliamentary cooperation.
On 19–20 March 2023, the State Duma hosted the Second International Parliamentary Conference “Russia – Africa” in Moscow.
More than 40 official parliamentary delegations from almost all African countries took part in the Conference. Representatives of the scientific, educational and expert communities from Russia and African countries, members of the State Duma, federal executive authorities, senators of the Federation Council, chairmen of the legislative bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, representatives of the business community also took part in the events of the Conference.
The objectives of the Conference are to strengthen parliamentary cooperation with African countries in the conditions of formation of a multipolar world, to develop relations and develop common approaches to legal regulation in the economy, science and education and security.
On March 19, on the first day of the Conference, there were held the following round tables:
- Parliamentary Support of Scientific and Educational Cooperation
- Legislative Response to Economic Challenges
- Indivisible Security: Capabilities and Contributions of Parliaments
- Neocolonialism of the West: How to Prevent the Repetition of History.
On March 19, there was also held a business breakfast with participation of the parliamentary delegations of African states and Russian business representatives.
On March 20, there was be held a plenary session of the International Parliamentary Conference entitled “Russia-Africa in the multipolar world”.
As part of the events of the Conference, the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin held bilateral meetings with several heads of delegations, speakers of parliaments and chambers of parliaments of African countries.
The Conference was held just few months before the Second Russia-Africa Summit, which is planned to be held on July 2023 in Saint Petersburg.
The First International Conference “Russia – Africa” was held in Moscow in 2019.
