“We have reached a common position on key political and economic issues, as well as in the security sphere, and agreed to enhance development of cooperation, including within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy between Russia and Iran,” stressed the parliamentarian.
According to him, the meeting participants exchanged views on significant issues of the bilateral and regional agenda. “We have discussed issues related to the post-crisis settlement in Syria, a number of issues of strengthening regional security, including in the light of the recent agreement signed in Beijing resuming cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia,” said Leonid Slutsky.
He added that the meeting participants also discussed issues of further work on the ratification of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea and a number of infrastructure significant economic projects.
“Among them, the most important is the International North-South Transport Corridor, which in the very near future will become a real alternative to the Suez Canal and the Black Sea straits, as well as energy cooperation, including nuclear energy, exploration and production of oil and gas in the territory of Iran, cargo transit across the Caspian Sea, as well as electrification by Russian companies of the Garmsar-Inche Burun railway line,” stressed the Chairman of the Committee.
Leonid Slutsky also said that a transport hub was being built in Iran for the export of grain from Russia. “As for the export movement along the transport corridor from Russia, it will mainly be grain. The largest grain hub in the region can be built in the Bandar Abbas port or Bandar Khomeyni,” said the parliamentarian.
He added that the parties “are open to participation in a consortium of third countries, but we proceed from the fact that the hub will be created by Russia and Iran.”
