On Monday, February 19, the first meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Moscow.

Issues of development of economic integration in the Eurasian space, improving quality of the healthcare system and the labor migration were discussed at the meeting of the Commission.
“Relations between our countries are developing dynamically. Our presidents are doing a lot for this,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin. That dynamic is a good example of how to build relationship, according to the Chairman of the State Duma.
According to Vyacheslav Volodin, it is necessary to develop interparliamentary cooperation more actively, create new formats of cooperation, and discuss specific issues within the framework of friendship groups and the Inter-parliamentary Commission. That would meet the needs of people of both countries, as he said.
“On our part, we should do everything to ensure that decisions made at the level of heads of states are being implemented,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
Nurdinjon Ismoilov supported him: “We need to improve our inter-parliamentary cooperation, as there are issues and the deputy corps should make its own contribution. The heads of states really create the necessary conditions for the development of cooperation between our nations.”
“We should work, help our governments and officials so that they could receive the support of the deputy corps,” said the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The Chairman of the State Duma recalled that Uzbekistan had become one of the ten leading trade and economic partners of Russia, having overtaken France and Japan in 2023. The trade growth in 2023 compared to 2022 was 11.5%.
“Uzbekistan is a leader in personnel training in Russia: 53 thousand students are citizens of Uzbekistan studying in our country, 12 thousand of them receives free education,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. The Chairman of the State Duma also noted the development of tourism: the number of Russians who wanted to visit Uzbekistan in 2023 increased by 30%, about 714 thousand people.
“Today, the number of citizens of Uzbekistan who come to our country to get a job is quite huge — 6 million people. It is very important for us that those who come to our country should know the Russian language, respect our culture, traditions, and history,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin. “As for history, we have a lot in common,” he added.
“We need to take these factors into account and do everything to ensure that our relationship develop dynamically, create relevant conditions, including through legislative regulation. It is no coincidence that the heads of our states, when signing the declaration on a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2022, mentioned the development of inter-parliamentary relations, that includes not only mutual understanding and development of relations between nations, but also resolving issues by providing the legislative support to the reached agreements,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
Nurdinjon Ismoilov noted the importance of cultural and educational ties and emphasized that the people of Russia and Uzbekistan had a common history and memory of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War: “Then our people were fighting the fascists together.”
Vyacheslav Volodin invited his colleague from Uzbekistan to take part in the International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”.
The agreement on creation of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation
between the State Duma and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan was signed on November 28, 2022, during the official visit of Vyacheslav Volodin to Uzbekistan.
