The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with the Speaker of the National
Assembly of Burundi Gélase Daniel Ndabirabe.
A delegation of the Parliament of Burundi came to the Russian Federation to observe the presidential elections.
Russia’s political system formed by Vladimir Putin had proven its effectiveness, as noted Vyacheslav Volodin: it was created in difficult conditions, and now its main differences are a multi-party system and a high level of political culture.
“When we talk about elections, several fundamental rules for conducting an election campaign must be observed: openness, competitiveness and legitimacy,” Vyacheslav Volodin said at the meeting.
“As for the recent election campaign, it must be emphasized that there has never been such a turnout at any election in the entire history of new Russia and even in the Soviet Union. The President was supported by more than 87% of the voters. This is a victory for all our citizens. Russia cannot be weak. A strong president means a strong Russia,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
“The current challenges and previous achievements of Vladimir Valdimirovich as president united people around him. And now we see the powerful consolidation and support in the election. This is a response to our enemies,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
Gélase Daniel Ndabirabe conveyed words of congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his victory in the presidential election from the leadership and people of Burundi. “We are convinced that this is a great achievement, especially in the current conditions: in the current situation in the world caused by the Western countries, the United States. One would think that the situation is difficult and ambiguous, but you have made it, and we take our hats off, we applaud: this is truly a great achievement,” emphasized the parliamentarian.
“We visited different polling stations and noted the transparency, openness and security level of the election. All international regulations were observed. People were calm, everything in the country was just as usual, nothing was stopped, and this is a good example for the whole world,” said Gélase Daniel Ndabirabe.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Burundi also noted the modern electronic voting systems in Russia. “The electronic option is a very fast option. You can see at the level of the entire country how much time elections take. We were pleasantly surprised,” he said.
The Chairman of the State Duma also invited his counterparts from Burundi to enhance inter-parliamentary dialogue. “I hope that our contacts will be more regular. This will only benefit both your country and ours,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
He invited the parliamentary delegation to take part in the International Conference “Development of Parliamentarism”, which will be held in Moscow this summer. Gélase Daniel Ndabirabe accepted the invitation.
The presidential election in Russia was held on March 15–17, 2024. The incumbent head of state Vladimir Putin received more than 87% of the votes.
