The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
met with the Vice Chairman of the Standing
Committee of the National People's Congress Peng Qinghua.
“The level of relations between our countries speaks for itself: this is a comprehensive strategic partnership, they are developing in all areas of cooperation. We should express gratitude to our heads of states who have made a huge contribution to the development of relations and set their dynamics,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
Parliamentarians of Russia and China, for their part, should do everything to provide legislative support to the decisions adopted by the leaders of the two states, as added Vyacheslav Volodin.
“If we look at the previous period’s results, we see the growth of the Chinese economy, the economy of our country. Today, China, according to the World Bank, is the first world economy. Russia is the fourth economy, has become the largest European economy. Trade turnover over the past year increased by 25%, and we also see growth in 2024,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
Zhao Leji will visit Russia in the near future, according to Vyacheslav Volodin. “It will be his first visit to our country as Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress,” he said.
The Chairman of the State Duma added that as part of this visit, there will be held the ninth meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National People's Congress. It is also planned that Zhao Leji will take part in the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which will be held in St. Petersburg.
“In recent years, the strategic leadership of the two heads of states, our relationship, namely comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in a new era, has reached new level. We have very close and intensive contacts at high and senior levels,” stressed Peng Qinghua.
He also noted the positive dynamics in the development of economic relations between Russia and China, and the strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties.
“Currently, Chinese-Russian cooperation has faced a difficult international situation, as well as foreign interference. In these conditions, we should strengthen confidence and enhance interaction, continue to reveal our own potential and capabilities, and strengthen cooperation,” said Peng Qinghua.
In addition, China and Russia closely cooperate at the UN, SCO, BRICS and other major international platforms, and together defend common interests, as well as stability in the world.
On November 21–23, 2023, the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav
Volodin paid an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. The delegation of the State Duma visited the capital of China, Beijing, and the city of Nanjing. During the visit, Vyacheslav Volodin met with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and the Chairman of the Standing
Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji. In addition, members of the State Duma learned more about the best practices of the Chinese education, innovative
energy solutions and met with school children and students in China.
