Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast) , the dynamic of relations between Russia and Cuba is primarily set by the presidents of the two states. The Chairman of the State Duma called for systematizing the work within the framework of the bilateral inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation. According to him, all the foundations for this have already been laid, relevant agreements have been signed.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted the importance of developing trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and implementing projects in various fields, such as tourism, energy, and agriculture.
“Our friendship has been tested by time — for decades, our fathers, grandfathers have been keeping it for us. We should protect it and pass it on to future generations. But what kind of economy we will transfer, what issues we will leave unresolved, largely depends on us,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the State Duma condemned the US policy towards Cuba: the economic blockade of the Republic and its decision to include Cuba in the list of states sponsors of terrorism of the US Department of State.
“The Bidens — they come and go. But Cuba exists and will exist. We believe that people like Biden should be held responsible for sanctions policy, for the war unleashed in Ukraine, for the destruction of the economies of European countries, for everything the United States has done to the Cuban people,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. According to him, Biden will definitely be held responsible for these crimes, “as voters questioned him, and he admitted capitulation without yet taking part in the elections, realizing that he had created a lot of problems.”
Esteban Lazo Hernández emphasized that the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba “is a unique and effective format of interaction”. The Speaker of the Cuban Parliament thanked his Russian colleagues for their position and condemnation of the criminal economic blockade of the Republic.
Esteban Lazo Hernández condemned sanctions that were unilaterally imposed on Russia and Cuba.
“We think that Russia and Cuba will win together and become stronger, despite the current conditions the whole world lives in,” said the Speaker of the Cuban Parliament.
Vyacheslav Volodin also invited Esteban Lazo Hernández to pay a visit to Russia.
Earlier, Vyacheslav Volodin met with the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. Issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia
and Cuba, enhancement of economic ties and tourism were discussed at the meeting.
