The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
commented on the recent three-day Munich Security Conference in his Telegram channel.

“The current European political elite, for the most part, having made a huge number of mistakes and taken detrimental decisions primarily for their own countries, is trying to keep in power by any means. It looks very pathetic and unconvincing,” he stressed.

Secondly, according to the Chairman of the State Duma, the collective institutions of the European Union, represented by their leaders, do not realize the real situation in the world and have shown their incompetence and inadequacy.

“The third thing: the authorities of Germany, who previously set the tone as the host country, have failed to make proposals that would unite all the participants. Having agreed to introduce a state of emergency in their country,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.

“The fourth thing: against this background, the speech of US Vice President Vance looked very different, as he gave an objective assessment of the current situation in European countries. But he was not supported. The conference participants were not ready to hear the truth about themselves,” noted Vyacheslav Volodin. “All following statements made by the heads of European states showed that Vance only made them more irritate and angry. They could not hide their negative emotions. But this is not surprising. They were ardent supporters of another candidate in the US elections,” he added.

“Analyzing the recent event in Munich, we can say with confidence: the European Union, its international institutions, including parliamentary ones, will face serious changes,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.

According to Vyacheslav Volodin, those changes will not be easy, painful: “There will be possible conflicts and crisis phenomena that will accompany this process. Democratic procedures in many EU countries have become decorative. In pan-European structures, they have not been used and ignored for a long period of time.”

“Therefore, it will not be easy for common sense forces that support the society's demand for a renewal of power. They could face all sorts of obstacles, attempts to prevent them from taking part in the election procedures. As it has already happened in Romania during the presidential campaign. Or in France and Germany, when undesirable political parties won. But changes are inevitable,” concluded the Chairman of the State Duma.
