Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min
Aung Hlaing.
The meeting participants discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including socio-economic and humanitarian issues, legislative experience, as well as the further development of Russia-Myanmar inter-parliamentary dialogue.
“Your interaction with our President helps to enhance contacts between our countries. It is of a permanent nature,” Vyacheslav Volodin told Min Aung Hlaing.
According to the Chairman of the State Duma, the visit of the Prime Minister of Myanmar to Russia will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation. “You are a great friend of Russia. This is our first meeting, but I hope that it will lay a good foundation for strengthening relations in all areas, and, of course, at the inter-parliamentary level as well. As soon as the parliament is formed in Myanmar, we will definitely do everything to ensure the development of relations within the parliamentary dimension,” he stressed.
Both Russia and Myanmar stand for building a multipolar just world order, as recalls the Chairman of the State Duma. “We, just like you, share the principles of building relations on principles of mutual respect, non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states, absence of double standards, and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
“We have a lot in common. We, just like you, respect the institution of family, religion, culture, and our history. This is a very important factor in the development of relations. We have the same vision of paying respect to the values left by our predecessors,” the Chairman of the State Duma added.
Speaking about economic cooperation between Russia and Myanmar, Vyacheslav Volodin noted the recent bilateral trade growth: in 2024, it increased by more than 40%.
Min Aung Hlaing, for his part, noted that it was a great honor for him to be there at the Russian people's elected legislative chamber, the State Duma. “I can say on behalf of Myanmar that we are ready to cooperate in any area. The purpose of our visit is to strengthen cooperation between our countries,” he said.
The Prime Minister of Myanmar said that there was a parliament in the Republic until 2020, but after the state of emergency was declared, the work of the legislative bodies was suspended. “After the state of emergency is lifted, we will, of course, hold the elections in our country,” he said.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the State Duma told the Myanmar delegation about the electoral system of Russia and the procedure for forming the State Duma. Min Aung Hlaing expressed a desire to learn more about the procedure for forming and working of the Russian parliament. According to him, Myanmar is interested in Russia's legislative experience in protecting the country's sovereignty and countering attempts of foreign interference in internal affairs. He added that he would send a group of experts to Russia to study this issue in detail. “I hope that you will be able to create a political system that will effectively solve the problems of development of your state and people,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
The Prime Minister of Myanmar invited Vyacheslav Volodin and the delegation of the State Duma to pay a visit to the Republic this year.
