The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
commented on the European Court of Human Rights' rejection
of the petition of the leader of the parliamentary faction of the French National
Rally party Marine Le Pen to overturn the court's decision to deprive her of the right to participate in elections.
“The European Court of Human Rights responded to Marine Le Pen's appeal that the court did not find irreparable prejudice to human rights in depriving her of the electoral right. This is what we should always think about and realize the state of democracy in Europe,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the State Duma drew attention to the fact that such decisions could be made only by “those who have criticized us for decades and say that we do not observe human rights.” “The leader of the party which rating is higher than the rating of Macron’s party was deprived of her electoral rights,” he emphasized.
Vyacheslav Volodin also noted that in Russia, politicians have the opportunity to discuss issues. “We have democratically suffered all these norms and rules, protected them, and now rely on them,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. “We should value our freedom and do everything to make the country stronger,” he added.
